Mosaic Marketing 101

Main
Our Mosaic platform is about the art of creating cool composite images by assembling the Twitter or Facebook avatars of your social media fans and followers. This interactive mosaic is a virtual canvas that is painted with continually changing images created automatically (by searching on a Twitter hashtag) or manually (by requiring users to add themselves to the Mosaic).

Here are some innovative applications of this new technology:

  • Fan appreciation mosaics that allow fans to become a part of the album cover or photos to celebrate events such as album releases or other milestones. See Example..
  • Album Reveals mosaics that incorporate mosaics as part of an album cover reveal. See Example..
  • Scavenger hunt mosaics where fans try to find hidden clues or exclusive content within the mosaic. See Example..

Advanced features include:

  • Comprehensive sharing on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks (Pinterest, Flickr, MySpace, i.e.)
  • Add me and find me via Facebook and Twitter (optional support for other social networks)
  • Multiple tile resolution and caching support
  • Support for audio, video and images (scavenger hunt)
  • Optional high resolution output (for printing)
  • IFRAME and Mobile support
  • Support for sharing individual tiles and multiple image support
  • Sharing mosaic on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Email, MySpace and Pinterest
  • Topics: Mosaic
  • Mosaics are a great way to fuel fan engagement and reveal exclusive content such as album covers. The natural inclination is to reveal the album tile by tile as fans share the message, but regardless of the size of an artist’s fan base, this approach doesn’t work very well for a number of reasons:

    • Fans prefer immediate gratification, not a future “pay off”
    • Without enough fans or momentum, the process can take weeks, or worse, lose steam entirely

The MYCHILD MYBRIDE Mosaic demonstrates a slightly better approach: Give fans the immediate gratification of revealing the cover, but require them to share first in order to see it.  This appoach of share-gating the album cover (or other exclusive content) and combining it with a fan-generated mosaic (tied to a hashtag), may prove more effective and a better return on investement (ROI).

    Initial Welcome “Share-Gate” Screen:
Dynamic “preview” prompts fans to share a message on Facebook or Twitter in order to reveal the album cover.

There are a couple of options for doing album reveals on Twitter that range from the simple to the more complex. Each option supports “share-gating”, forcing users to share a message on either Twitter or Facebook before they can reveal the album cover. The same approaches can be used with other exclusive content (such as photos, videos, i.e.)

    • Basic – Similar to the Black Eyed Peas example below, users share a message to view the album cover (See Black Eyed Peas)
    • Advanced – Similar to the Black Eyed Peas example but with data collection and comprehensive sharing (See Stereos)
    • Mosaic – Enhances user experience by enabling fans to become part of the cover mosaic as well as reveal or download it (See MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE)

    Objective:
Engage Twitter and Facebook fan in an interactive campaign to support Taylor Swift as part of the 2011 ACM Awards.

    Solution:
Created and deployed a branded two-part Tweematic campaign that encouraged fans to share a message (on Facebook or Twitter) in order to enter for a chance to win a digital camera from Taylor Swift sponsor Sony, as well as a pair of tickets to any Taylor Swift concert. The campaign consisted of 2 separate (but integrated) application residing on the same microsite hosted by Metablocks at http://www.VoteTaylorSwift.com. The first application was our regular Tweematic-engine. Unique features in this particular promotion was the ability to capture mobile phone numbers and directly add them to their mobile mob.  The second application was our unique link sharing engine, which allows fans to get (and share) their own unique link. By sharing this unique link, fans received a point. The fan with the more unique shares would be declared the winner.

    Unique Link Sharing Engine:
The link sharing app is a great way to encourage link sharing amongst fans. We have successfully used the apps for “Get Out the Vote” and similar campaigns for artists including Jennifer Lopez and Justin Derulo. The application features a simple link generation box, that can be iframed in a Tweematic, a Facebook page or a microsite. Once fans generated their unique link, they were free to sharing it using a sharing console that was part of the application. This console automated the process of sharing the link on social media networks like Facebook and Twitter, but also allowed them to email and even text their link to friends.
